BACKGROUNG MUSIC: THE WORLD IS WAITING FOR THE SUNRISE by Frankie Newton and Orchestra
Silver Lake is a 640-acre (2.6 km2) lake in Pembroke, Kingston, and Plympton, Massachusetts, south of Route 27 and east of Route 36. The Pembroke/Plympton town line is entirely within the lake, and a portion of the western shoreline of the lake is the town line with Halifax. The lake is the principal water supply for the City of Brockton, whose water treatment plant is on Route 36 in Halifax. The inflow of the pond is Tubbs Meadow Brook, and the pond is the headwaters of the Jones River. Occasionally water is diverted into Silver Lake from Monponsett Pond in Halifax and Furnace Pond in Pembroke (through Tubbs Meadow Brook) whenever there is a water shortage. Access to the pond is through Silver Lake Sanctuary, a 92 acre property where one can walk, hike and fish, which is located at the end of Barses Lane, off Route 27 in Kingston.

Plymouth County Hospital
Part 2
Part 3
Part 4
As a teenage I worked in the kitchen of this hospital.
The hospial was built in 1923 and closed in 1992, it was originally named the Hanson Tuberculosis Hospital, later converted to a general hospital (Plymouth County Hospital). The medical center then changed purpose once again to become a rehabilitation and pulmonary care facility and was renamed Cranberry Specialty Hospital in 1982. Due to lack of inpatients it was closed in 1992. In April 2004, a 4-alarm fire erupted in the kitchen area, damaging the rear section of the building, and has since been subject to much vandalism
Hanson Tuberculosis Hospital was built to care for people in the Plymouth County with tuberculosis. Unlike many of the other sanitariums built in Massachusetts, this one was built in a Spanish style exterior. With a red tile roof and concrete walls. As years went on and tuberculosis was cured the patients changed and so did the name, to Plymouth County Hospital, then again to Cranberry Specialty Hospital before it closed its door in 1992.

Historic Landmark: The Pembroke Herring Run In Memoriam, July 22, 2009
This post may not belong here in consideration that it is not within the theme of the page. However, it was a sojourn on my bicycle, a trip to the Pembroke Herring Run where the memorial is located.
As I have written in America’s Betrayal: Daily there always seems to be an existential reminder of the immorality of war. It is always with me, staring me right in the face: primarily Iraq and Afghanistan, but also Korea and Vietnam.
And, so it is on this day.

Watched this egret for quite a while. Started shooting my camera when I thought the time was right. He finally caught his prey, which I believe was a frog, but could have been a small catfish.

Indian Head and Maquan Ponds, June 27, 2009
(Red tracking on map is the trail I traveled.)
a
Today, my bike and I traveled to Indian Head and Maquan Pond in Hanson, Massachusetts.
After many days of rain and otherwise generally poor weather, it was an immense pleasure to be out of doors. The day was about 80 F., high humidity, and just an absolutely gorgeous day.
Road my bike to, and hiked around Camp Kiwanee. It was a very eerie feeling walking through an area with empty and boarded up cabins that many years ago were a place of nature education and exploration; canoeing, fishing or swimming in Maquan pond; archery, campfires, song, laughter, and joy.
I took 119 photographs of wildflowers of which 17 were of the quality to reproduce here. I have a simple Panasonic HDD video camera with the capability for still photographs: The camera is very satisfactory for my needs.
The beauty of wildflowers in nature is awesome. I have spent hours searching for the identification of the wildflowers I have photographed. I have the correct common name, I think, for a few, so if anyone can add to the identification of these, please comment.
